Today is the World Wetlands Day!

Celebrated annually on the second day of February, World Wetlands Day aims to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and planet.

This day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands (also known as the Ramsar Convention on 2 February 1971.

Wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, freshwater availability, world economies, and more.

To us, wetlands are especially important, as it all began with the wetland near the village of Maříž. Located on the historic tri-state border between Bohemia, Moravia, and Austria, this piece of land was the very first we decided to buy, restore and take care of.

Yet, nearly 90 % of the world’s wetlands have been degraded since the 1700s, and we are losing wetlands three times faster than forests.
